A student's view of a Manhattan classroom is very similar
to the teacher's. Manhattan doesn't have a special "designer
mode" that is used by the teacher to make learning materials
available to her students. For the most part, the teacher
sees the same menus, buttons, and pages that a student sees,
although often the teacher has a few more commands available
than a student does. One very significant difference between
a student's and teacher's view of Manhattan is contained
within the main menu's
button. Only the teacher of
the course has the Configuration button as the last item on
the main menu.
Once a Manhattan classroom has been set up by the server administrator, the teacher is in full control. Using commands found within the Configuration section, the teacher can:
Change details like the name of the course, the semester, and how your name appears throughout the system.
Turn Manhattan's modules on or off.
Reset student passwords, and make minor changes to their names.
Add new students and additional teachers to the classroom.
Remove students and teachers from the classroom.
Get a roster for the course as a text file that can be imported into a spreadsheet or grade book program.
Organize the students into teams.
View logs that show when students have logged in, and what they have done while logged in.
Get information about the amount of disk space used by the classroom.
View the contents of their Clipboard, which is a special feature that allows teachers to reuse Manhattan messages.

This chapter explains the options available to the teacher via the Configuration menu. As the system administrator, you have access to the same capabilities via the Configure courses link on your administrative menu - see Accessing a course's configuration menu. |
