A student's view of a Manhattan classroom is very similar to the teacher's. Manhattan doesn't have a special "designer mode" that is used by the teacher to make learning materials available to her students. For the most part, the teacher sees the same menus, buttons, and pages that a student sees, although often the teacher has a few more commands available than a student does. (See Differences between the teachers' and students' views for a summary of the differences.) One very significant difference between a student's and teacher's view of Manhattan is contained within the main menu's button. Only the teacher of the course has the Configuration button as the last item on the main menu.

Some capabilities, such as assigning students to teams and getting a course roster will be revisited in later chapters of this manual. Note that this manual is more of a reference than a tutorial. If this is your first reading of the manual, skim over the sections of this chapter to get a broad view of the capabilities presented by the Configuration menu. You can always refer back to this chapter when you've gained more experience with Manhattan.
