The teacher of the course has the ability to decide which of Manhattan's modules to use and when. A well run Manhattan classroom will rarely have all of the modules enabled. It is far better to use only those modules that make sense for what you want to accomplish.
To activate or de-activate a module, start from the Main Menu of your classroom and click on the Configure button at the bottom. (If you don't see a Configure button, then you are not logged in as the teacher of the classroom.) The first item in the configuration menu reads:
Go here to turn modules on and off. You can also change the course information that appears on various screens throughout the system.
Clicking on the hyperlink brings you to a form that includes the ability to select or de-select the modules you wish to use in your classroom. See section Select modules for a complete description of this feature.
You'll note there are three options for the Handouts/Notices module:
Disable this module
Enable this module, and allow users to hide/unhide topics
Enable this module, but don't allow user's to hide/unhide topics
At the teacher, you can choose whether to give your students the ability to temporarily hide Handouts/Notices messages. See Hiding and Unhiding Topics for more information on this feature.
Once you've activated a module, it immediately becomes available to you and your students.
