A Manhattan message can be as simple as a few lines of plain text, or it can contain megabytes of multimedia contained within an attached web site. The procedure for sending Manhattan messages has already been covered, using the Handouts/Notices module as an example, in Sending messages. Attaching Files is of particular interest, since posting files such as word processing documents is an important and common task within Manhattan.
The procedure for attaching web sites to a message (see Attaching Web Sites) was called an advanced topic in that chapter, mostly because it was introduced so early in this manual. While it is true that you can do well without knowing how to attach a web site, there are occasions when using that technique is the only way you can make certain kinds of learning materials available to your students. We'll revisit the procedure for working with attached web sites later in this chapter, however you might it useful to refer back to the basics covered in Basic Skills and Concepts.
The primary focus of this chapter will be to provide you with some ideas regarding the types of files and web site attachments you'll find useful in your virtual classroom
