Other file types

This chapter has provided you with a number of ways to enhance your Manhattan classroom beyond the sending of simple text messages, within the context of the Lectures and Handouts/Notices modules. The ideas presented in this chapter might seem advanced to you. If so, forget them for now. One of the good things about Manhattan is that you can use as little or as much of its capabilities as you are comfortable with. You can do quite well with simple text messages and attaching an occasional word processing file.

Still, the ideas presented in this chapter are only the beginning. Since you can attach complete web sites to Manhattan, you can include any technology that works on the web within your Manhattan classroom. That includes the flashy stuff like Flash, JavaScript (see The Self-tests module for an important example), Java applets (see http://www.qarbon.com for some great simulation software) and many other related tools and technologies.

Additionally, keep in mind that you can attach any size file of any type to any Manhattan message. You can directly post Excel spreadsheet files, 'C++' program files, the installation program for RealPlayer Basic, photographs of your pet dog, or even a complete copy of The Manhattan Virtual Classroom to your Manhattan classroom.
