Adding a new Internet Resource is similar to posting a new message in other Manhattan' modules. Start by clicking on the & New Item button:

The compose message form is similar to those used in other modules:

![]() |
It's important to note that you must include the 'http://' part when entering the Location for the web site you want to bring to your students' attention. If you simply enter, say, www.somesite.com, your web link will NOT work. |
You are not restricted to listing web sites on the Location: line. Other Internet protocols supported include:
| 'Prefix' | Example | Expected action |
|---|---|---|
| https:// | https://www.sf.net | This is for secure web sites, such as those used for online purchases. The web site will be brought up within the web browser like an ordinary page. |
| mailto: | mailto:snarmont@users.sourceforge.net | The user's e-mail program should start, and begin a new message to the email address listed after the mailto: prefix. (Note there are no slashes // after the mailto: prefix.) |
| telnet:// | telnet://inky.dinky.com | A 'telnet' client should start on the user's computer, and connect the user to the named internet address. |
| ftp:// | ftp://ftp.winzip.com | FTP is the file transfer protocol, used to copy files from one computer to another on the Internet. An ftp:// address will generally work directly within the student's web browser. |
Note that you cannot attach files to an Internet Resources message. It was designed that way to keep the focus of the module clear. Internet Resources is simply a place for you, the teacher, to post a list of web and other Internet addresses for students to access.
Also note that any URL typed within the Comment portion of the message itself, automatically becomes a live link when the message is opened. For example, if you type as part of a the message:
Another good site to visit is http://www.sciencefair.org
The web address will become a working link in the Internet Resources message.
